twitter.com/naval/status/10021034977251… > Seek wealth, not money or status. Wealth is having assets that earn while you sleep. Money is how we transfer time and wealth. Status is your place in the social hierarchy. twitter.com/naval/status/10021036273878… > Ignore people playing status games. They gain status by attacking people playing wealth creation games. From @naval’s Twitter thread “how to get rich (without getting lucky)” twitter.com/naval/status/10021033606468… My note: wealth is options; options are freedom, and buying your time back. Only play status games if you’re playing for fun, but don’t confuse it with success and freedom.

it's a shame that our society causes us to optimize our time spent to make the most amount of money. we need to do the opposite of this: twitter.com/naval/status/10021033606468…

Maybe: - Speaking another language than English. Language is a key to access a culture. - Being more or less aware of your neurological (isolation, attention, sleep, meditation, n-back) and evolutionary needs (fasting, exercise) to infer consequences for your own health. Tangentially related: how to read studies as a layperson to ultimately make decisions for yourself & your health? - Mastering/recapitulation of fundamentals of your craft (to stay sharp): "Study microeconomics, game theory, psychology, persuasion, ethics, mathematics, and computers." - Investing & microeconomics - Creativity: "Specific knowledge is often highly technical or creative. It cannot be outsourced or automated." - Being aware of non-conventional (and preferably non-exploitative) money making opportunities: "The Internet has massively broadened the possible space of careers. Most people haven't figured this out yet." - How to operate a search engine effectively (how to come up with the right keywords to get what you're exactly looking for) - Self discipline in a highly distractible atmosphere - Emotional self-management - Organizing: PARA system, Johnny File System, Obsidian Reference: twitter.com/naval/status/10021033606468…

The problem in these types of discussions is the general conflation between income and wealth. In the US, most people are taught from a young age that they should strive for high-income, high-status jobs (engineer, doctor, lawyer). Yet that was the path to success 50 years ago, not today. As the article mentions, you can have a huge income while still having lots of debt, being unable to afford a home, etc. - especially if you live somewhere with a huge cost of living, like the Bay Area. When you are reliant on income, your money scales linearly with the effort and/or time that you put into your labor. (Actually, sub-linearly - the company you work for captures the majority of the value.) Conversely, to become wealthy, you must build ownership in something. Then, your money accumulates exponentially as a function of your labor input. One of the most successful people I know worked manual labor jobs, bought a small HVAC business, scaled it up, and now has contracts with most office buildings in one of the largest cities in the US. He is richer than 99% of FAANG engineers. twitter.com/naval/status/10021033606468…

All fair points. I've found that radically limiting the people I follow has had a huge impact on the quality of my feed (and it's still not great). More often than not a tweet provides me with an introduction to a new topic / idea that I can then further explore off the site. I struggled to come up with good tweets on the spot -- here's my best shot: twitter.com/steveschoger/status/9971253… twitter.com/tobyshorin/status/115596556… twitter.com/naval/status/10021033606468… twitter.com/jmj/status/1114598412375035… Naval's does feel particularly like an elevator pitch though
