I ran an ISA company for a while and can say with pretty high confidence that there are many reasons why fee-for-success is not an effective way to monetize this type of content (Which I've written about before [0]). I agree that a business, like YC, that has been around for a while, monetizes directly with a fee-for-success model, and has good reviews is very likely to be effective. But the inverse does not hold: a program using fee-for-service is not particularly good evidence that the program is ineffective. [0] twitter.com/seanlinehan/status/15059230…

Austen from Bloom (Lambda School) had some interesting thoughts on this as well. twitter.com/Austen/status/1506072723302…

This tweet thread was likely a subtweet of a controversial Sam Altman tweet the day before: twitter.com/sama/status/150559970186470… > A version of college replacement I'm super interested in: > Find the smartest and most driven 18 year olds in the world, and give them 'tenure'--say a decade+ of salary, resources to work on whatever they want, and a smart peer group--in exchange for small % of future earnings.

    > Lambda school, which fortunately also collapsed was notorious for this. This statement seems to be going unchallenged. It wouldn't surprise me, but if you check @BloomTech and @Austen on twitter, you can see they're still talking it up: twitter.com/BloomTech twitter.com/Austen
