Here is a great thread that might clear up some of your misconceptions about nuclear waste: twitter.com/MadiHilly/status/1550148385…...

Deep geologic repositories have a scientific consensus as being safe and appropriate solutions to high level nuclear waste. Finland's Onkalo is mostly constructed and finishing up licensing right now. It's a solved problem. posiva.fi/en/ Number of deaths from stored commercial nuclear waste worldwide? zero. People always ask: "what about the waste?" Nowadays we answer: "What about it?" Air pollution and climate change are vastly more serious and challenging problems than the storage of high-level nuclear waste. There was just a huge twitter thread related to this with like 33k RTs and over 100k likes: twitter.com/MadiHilly/status/1550148385…

    > My problem with nuclear is the lack of a solution for waste Waste management is pretty much a solved problem [1][2] > Some pose catastrophic risks to the communities they are stored in "catastrophic" would have to be qualified here, and I think you are being hyperbolic, but essentially the only waste sites that have major risks are those from decades ago before we had good solutions. Nuclear is incredibly safe [3] 1. twitter.com/MadiHilly/status/1550148385…... 2. twitter.com/MadiHilly/status/1552655863…... 3. ourworldindata.org/safest-sources-of-en…

So nuclear waste is stored in casks: * nwmo.ca/canadas-used-nuclear-fuel/how-i…... * en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_flask Are you telling me it's unsafe? Someone better tell Madison Hill: * newsweek.com/pregnant-woman-poses-nucle…... * twitter.com/MadiHilly/status/1550148385… * twitter.com/MadiHilly/status/1671491294… Or Paris Ortiz-Wines: * twitter.com/ParisOrtizWines/status/1195…... (The context here is not walking down some road and getting bombarded with particles: but about the storage of industrial material and the risks it involves. Yes, stuff gets shot out at >300 years: but it's not just lying around randomly.)
