Yes, according to this: x.com/SemiAnalysis_/status/206481504408… also, codex apparently uses fewer tokens to complete tasks, in part because their tokeniser is about 80% the length of that in tokens for the same string as that of the latest anthropic ones. This might be fable only though.

SemiAnalysis pushed this to the limit and managed to get $8,000 of tokens from a $200/month Anthropic plan and $14,000 of tokens from a $200/month OpenAI plan: twitter.com/SemiAnalysis_/status/206481…

More precisely -> the competitors heavily subsidize which causes cursor to feel expensive. > Recently, we purchased one of each Anthropic/OpenAI subscription plan and randomly ran long horizon coding tasks until we exhausted the weekly limit. It's widely believed that a $200/month plan maxes out at ~$2000/month worth of tokens (assuming API pricing). However, we found that the subscriptions are actually far more generous. But nobody really pays the 3x (ie. api) rates, except for enterprises. Everyone else are using the consumption plans, which are heavily discounted[1], possibly cheaper than even the chinese models, which don't do consumption plan discounts. Even in your linked reddit thread, the OP agreed with this sentiment. [1] x.com/SemiAnalysis_/status/206481504408…

>and you have an order of magnitude more bang for your buck Maybe if you're paying API rates, but if your usage fits within the American labs' plan reset windows (5-hour + weekly limits), their plans are likely cheaper than chinese models, because they're heavily discounted[1] [1] x.com/SemiAnalysis_/status/206481504408…

Yes, in the linked sources, SemiAnalysis did test for Codex too: x.com/SemiAnalysis_/status/206481504408… Similar effect, but even 70 times higher compared to Claude, 40 times.
Claude Code pricing: same tokens, same model, up to 40x the priceRead the thread - Cites it
There are some users reporting it improved a lot in the last few weeks. The max sub usage for Grok is around $12,000 of API pricing now, so a 40x multiplier for the $300 plan. It is the same multiplier for Sol with subscription. For Astra though the multiplier is ≈20x, so half of Sol usage. For Claude it seems to be ≈40x too for Opus, but less for Fable (similar to Astra in GPT). All on the most expensive plan. Previously, Grok usage escalated linearly from the $100 plan to $300 plan. That would be a really good $100 plan if it is still true.
